When do avios flights get released

Sign in to your account and then visit Avios eStore. When you visit the retailer website from the eStore, you will collect Avios on your purchase. Please note, collection rates vary from retailer to retailer and it can take up to 35 days for the Avios to be added to your account.

Transactions usually track as pending on the account within 24 hours. Avios collected through the Avios eStore will be added to your account within 35 days. You must book the flights within 1 year, you do not have to have flown them by that date.

This in effect, gives you nearly a 2 year window. You can use it to upgrade either a new or existing Avios booking by one class except from Club to First. Therefore you only need to earn the Avios for the class below to book initially if you are likely to earn one before your flight. You could then try to upgrade later.
