Why have underlay

Installing an underlay could be seen as an unnecessary expense when it comes to having your rooms fitted. In fact its that feeling that underlay gives, that softness under foot that is the most obvious, especially in bare feet. But in fact having underlay can make a big difference, especially in helping to preserve the age of the actual carpet and giving you that feeling of extra comfort. Of course another another benefit of underlay is warmth on those cold winter nights. Underlayment delivers superior acoustical performance.

If your laminate flooring planks already have an underlayment pad attached do not use additional underlayment because doing so will void your Swiss Krono warranty.

According to homerenovations. Thicknesses range from 6 mm to 8 mm. If your installation is over concrete, we recommend a 6-mil-poly vapor barrier — even if the underlayment you are installing already has a vapor barrier attached. Unintended nicks or tears during the installation process can violate the integrity of the attached vapor barrier.

Adding another vapor barrier is an extra level of protection. Our product cannot be installed over carpet or carpet pad so these items must be removed prior to installation.

Does your carpet have a felt or foam backing? The reason for this? A carpet underlay can prevent warmth ventilating from the underfloor heating through the carpet.
